South African singer-songwriter Makhanj introduces a new chapter in her career with “Transkei,” her powerful debut studio album released on August 5, 2026.
Released through her independent imprint Makhanj Entertainment, the 13-track project blends modern Amapiano and Private School Piano sounds with deeply personal themes of heritage, identity, healing, and perseverance.
Inspired by Makhanj’s connection to the Transkei region, the album serves as a tribute to her roots while celebrating African stories through a contemporary musical lens.
A major highlight of the project is its all-women creative direction, created to amplify female voices and provide more space for authentic storytelling.
The visual world of the album was shaped by multidisciplinary artist Tony Gum, while photographer Nondumiso Msimanga captured the official cover artwork.
