The actor, famously known as “Ikuku,” reportedly died on Tuesday afternoon at a hospital in Lagos after a brave, private battle with cancer.

Colleagues and industry giants, including Funke Akindele, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), and Omoni Oboli, have already taken to their platforms to express their heartbreak. Akindele, in a touching tribute, shared that she had tried to reach out to the actor one last time, describing him as a “rare soul.”

Born on April 10, 1986, Alexx Ekubo rose to national prominence as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria contest. He quickly became one of the most recognizable faces in African cinema, starring in over 100 films, including The Bling Lagosians, Weekend Getaway, and A Sunday Affair. Known for his impeccable comedic timing and undeniable charisma, he was a bridge between the old and new Nollywood.

The actor had been notably absent from the public eye and social media since late 2024, leading to widespread concern among fans. It has now emerged that he spent his final months focusing on his health and privacy.
