South African rapper Usimamane turns personal grief into music with “Slime,” an emotional tribute released on August 20, 2026.

The Durban-born artist reportedly created the song following the sudden passing of his close friend Xolani. Released just hours after the tragedy, the track captures the raw emotions of losing someone close while trying to process the pain through music.

On “Slime,” Usimamane reflects on friendship, loyalty, brotherhood, and loss. Rather than keeping his emotions distant, he uses his verses to honour his late friend and imagine the kind of music they would have enjoyed together.

Musically, the record takes a more reflective approach to his rap sound. Raw trap-inspired bars, melodic passages, and a sombre delivery give the song an intimate quality that matches its subject matter.

“Slime” arrives as a standalone release while Usimamane prepares for his next major chapter. The rapper has previously teased a new studio project expected in September 2026, making this deeply personal release an important moment in the build-up to that project.

With “Slime,” Usimamane shows the vulnerable side of his artistry, turning a painful real-life experience into a heartfelt musical tribute.
