The title “Ikhekhe Lami” translates to “My Cake” in English, giving the record a simple phrase around which its musical identity is built. Ngidi and Masinga deliver the song through the expressive storytelling and conversational style closely associated with traditional Maskandi.

At just over five minutes, the track gives the performers plenty of room to develop the arrangement. Rhythmic acoustic guitar picking and rolling concertina melodies provide the foundation, while the vocals carry the character and narrative of the song.

Ngidi’s delivery stays rooted in the genre’s distinctive approach, blending melody with a conversational vocal style. Masinga adds another voice to the record, creating a collaborative performance that retains the earthy feel of Maskandi.

As the fourth track on Oshiphigwebu, “Ikhekhe Lami” adds another traditional touch to Zanefa Ngidi’s project. Its extended arrangement, acoustic instrumentation, and storytelling-driven vocals make it a fitting choice for listeners who appreciate the authentic character of South African Maskandi.
