Zanefa Ngidi opens his latest project with “Oshiphigwebu,” a traditional Maskandi recording that also serves as the title track of his 5-song EP. Released on July 31, 2026, the song introduces the traditional sound and vocal style that runs through the project.
Running for 4 minutes and 14 seconds, the solo record is built around intricate acoustic guitar picking and rapid-fire Zulu spoken-word delivery. Ngidi keeps the arrangement rooted in the expressive performance style associated with traditional Maskandi.
The production leaves plenty of room for the guitar to lead the rhythm, while carefully placed vocal phrases add movement and character. Clean string patterns and spacious acoustic arrangements help maintain the earthy feel of the recording.
Released under Hlomza Music Production, “Oshiphigwebu” stays close to traditional Zulu folk structures. Its use of rhythmic guitar work, call-and-response elements, and spoken vocal passages gives the song an authentic cultural identity.
As both the opening track and title song of Oshiphigwebu, the record establishes the direction of Zanefa Ngidi’s five-track project. It is a focused introduction to his Maskandi sound, built around traditional instrumentation, energetic delivery, and strong Zulu musical influences.
